Holy Communion

Holy Communion, or Eucharist, is one of the two sacraments of the Evangelical Lutheran church.

We believe that the bread and wine served at Holy Communion are indeed Christ's body and blood. While eating the bread and drinking the wine, we recall how Jesus was sacrifised for our sins.

Holy Communion is celebrated every Sunday at Mass in our churches.

Who may receive Holy Communion?

All baptised and confirmed Lutherans are welcome to the altar. The Church also welcomes members of the Anglican Churches of the Porvoo Communion and the Church of Scotland to receive Holy Communion.

Children who are baptised but not yet confirmed can receive Holy Communion if accompanied by a parent or a godparent.

The Church’s practice is that no one who comes to the altar should be refused.
